Objective To investigate the effect of
Engraulis Japonicus Extractum (Fish Sauce) in reducing
blood glucose level and weight
of experimental diabetes rats. Methods Two hundred SD rats weighed from 200 g to 220 g were fasted for 24 hours, then were injected alloxan in tail-vein with the dose of 60 mg/kg to build as experimental diabetes animal models. Effects of different doses of
Engraulis Japonicus Extractum (Fish Sauce) (high dose of5 ml/kg, middle dose of 2. 5 ml/kg, low dose of 1.25 ml/kg) on fasting
blood glucose and gluscose tolerance of these models were observed. And effects of high dose of Engraulis japonicus extractum (fish sauce) on weight, serum Cr,BUN,GPT,GOT of normal SD rats were examined. Results Given high, middle, low dose of Engraulis japonicus extractum (fish sauce) constantly for 30 days, no significant change in blood glucose was observed in the models (P > 0. 05) , but the area below blood glucose curve in glucose tolerance test figure was evidently reduced (P < 0. 01 or < 0. 05) . Given high dose of Engraulis japonicus extractum (fish sauce) to normal SD rats constantly for 45 days, weight-increasing speed of the rats was significant reduced (P < 0.05). Conclusions Taking high, middle, low dose of Engraulis japonicus extractum (fish sauce) can help to reduce the area below blood glucose curve in glucose tolerance test figure, in other words, to increase glucose tolerance threshold of diabetes rats. Taking high dose of Engraulis japonicus extractum (fish sauce) (5 ml/kg) can help to decrease the weight-increasing speed of normal rats.
