AIM:To study the effect of
purslane on the postpone aging of rats,so as to provide theoretical evidence for the application
of
purslane. METHODS:Rats were divided into 4
groups with 10 rats in each group: control group(fed with normal diet),purslane high,middle and low dosage groups(fed with normal diet and purslane powder of 5.00,2.50 and 1.25 g respectively),all the rats were fed for 4 weeks.Their blood was taken at the 29th day of the experiment to determine the contents of serum malondialdehyde(MDA) and superoxide dismutase(SOD).For test of life-span,drosophila were divided into control group(fed with the regular corn medium) and study groups(purslane high,middle and low dosage groups,fed with regular medium plus 20%,10%and 5%purslane powder.Median lethal time,mean life and maximum life span of the drosophila were calculated. RESULTS:The serum level of MDA in the rats of the purslane high,middle and low dosage groups<(3.84±0.43),(4.06±0.32),(4.58 ±0.45) μmol/L> were significantly decreased as compared with that in the control group(t=10.22,13.59,13.43,P< 0.01).The serum SOD activities were(3.46±0.24),(3.25±0.20) and(3.00±0.15) kat/L in the purslane high,middle and low dosage groups,which were significantly higher than that in the control group(t=6.03,4.50,1.96;P< 0.05 to 0.01).The median lethal time,mean life and the maximum life span of drosophila were prolonged by perslane. CONCLUSION:Perslane has the effects of anti-oxidation and prolonging the life span,and it is a healthy product with developing value.
