Objective To observe the effects of Yangshixinlaoning capsule(YLN) on tuberculosis in guinea pig, in order to provide basis of experimental research for the study before being used clinically. Methods Guinea pigs were randomly divided into nine groups. The guinea pigs were injected with the strain of Mycobacterium(M) tuberculosis H37RV to establish tuberculosis model ,and the parameters including body weight, macroscopical visceral pathogenic degree, visceral weight index ( spleen , lung and liver ), the colony-forming unite(CFU) quantitative viscus culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis in guinea-pigs were observed. Results ① The body weights in experimental groups with various doses of YLN (1.0 g/kg·d -1, 0.5 g/kg·d -1, 0.25 g/kg·d -1) were heavier than those of control group (P<0.05). In guinea pig , the effect of YLN combined with INH were superior to that of INH (P<0.05), ②The macroscopical visceral pathogenic degree of all groups treated with YLN decreased obviously (P<0.05). ③ Except for the spleen and liver weight indexes in low-dose group, the indexes of all groups treated with YLN were obviously lower than those of control group (P<0.05). ④ The CFUs of all groups treated with YLN except for low-dose group were obviously lower than those of control group (P<0.05). Conclusion YLN capsule has an anti-tuberculosis and anti-infection effect in guinea pig infected with M. tuberculosis H37RV,especially in the high-dose and the middle-dose YLN, which has a synergetic effect with INH.
