Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on
micronucleus formation in PCE of bone
marrow and germ cells by γ-
ray irradiation and the anti-irradiation activities of
Ginkgo leaf preparation in mice. The mice generally
irradiated by 5.0 Gy 60Co-γ-ray,each mouse was given through stomach 10 mg Ginkgo leaf preparation every day for 6 days and 12 days. On the 7 th day and 13 th day,the micronuclei rates of PCE in bone marrow and
germ cells were observed. On the 7 th day,the micronuclei rates of PCE in bone marrow and germ cells in irradiated groups were higher than those in non-irradiated groups(P<0.01,P<0.05); the micronuclei rates of PCE in bone marrow in Ginkgo group was lower than those in irradiated group(P<0.05). The differences between the micronuclei rates of germ cells in Ginkgo group and irradiatied group were not statistically significant(P>0.05). On the 13 th day the micronuclei rates of PCE were lower than those on the 7 th day in irradiated group(P<0.05). On the 13 th day the micronuclei rates of germ cells in irradiated group and Ginkgo group were higher than those in non-irradiated group (P<0.05). The differences between the micronuclei rates of germ cells of irradiated group and Ginkgo group on the 7 th and 13 th day were not statistically significant(P>0.05).
There is genetical injury of PCE in mice bone marrow and germ cells after γ-ray irradiation and the proctective effect of Ginkgo leaf preparation on irradiating injury of PCE in bone marrow on the 7 th day. The micronucleus rates of PCE in bone marrow and germ cells in γ-ray irradiatied mice might be related to normal on the 13 th day.
