Objective To investigate the effect and mechanism of Weichangle consisting of tangshen root, rhizome of largehead atractylodes,
root of notoginseng, root of red-rooted salvia, rhizome of nutgrass galingale and other herbs for promoting the healing of ulcer and protecting the gastric mucosa cells. Method To divide randomly 48 SD rats into 6 groups: the normal control group, the model control group, the high-dose Weichangle group, the mid-dose Weichangle group, the low-dose Weichangle group and the Losec (omeprazole) group. The rat model of chronic acetous
gastric ulcer (CAGU) were established and treated for 12 days. The ulcer index (UI) was measured by a vernier and the expression of heat shock protein70 (HSP70) and heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) in gastric mucous membrane were detected by immunohistochemistry. Result The UI in three groups of Weichangle and Losec group were significantly lower than those in the model group (P<0.01). The expressions of HSP70 and HSP27 in three groups of Weichangle were obviously higher than those in the model control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Weichangle can promote the healing of chronic acetous gastric ulcer and increase the
quality of ulcer healing. The mechanism may be related to its promoting effect on the expression of HSP70 and HSP27.
