Objective:To verify the therapeutic effect of Shenggu Zaizao powder(SGZZP)on fracture healing and explore its probable mechanism.Methods:Forty-two rabbits were selected to make radial fractures at both sides with 3 mm defect,and divided randomly into three groups:experimental group,drug control group(Xianling Gubao(仙灵骨葆,XLGB),and blank control group.They were fed orally with SGZZP,XLGB and normal saline respectively.Their blood was drawn on the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th week after fracture,and were examined for alkaline phosphatase(ALPase)in serum.They were put to death on the 14th and 31st day after fracture in batches,and the radius specimens were taken out.The indices for observation included X-ray films,biomechanical tests and callus histomorphology.Results:On the 14th and 31st day after operation,the X-ray films,the biomechanical properties and histomorphology suggested that the fracture healing of the test group were better than that of the blank control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01),and were not different to the drug control's.On the 1st and 4th week after operation,the ALPase level in the three groups was not different.On the 2nd week,three groups were characterized by an increase in the ALPase level,and the test and the drug control group were significantly higher than those in the blank control group,but the former two were not different.On the 3rd week,the ALPase level of the test and the drug control group was significantly higher than those in the blank control group,while the test group's were significantly higher than that of the drug control group.Conclusion:SGZZP is able to shorten the time of the fracture-healing period,improve the fracture healing quality and are similar to the therapeutic effect of XLGB.
