Objective To investigate the effect of
compound Baoyuan decoction on the vagina, womb and sex hormones in elderly female
mice. Methods 90 elderly mice weighted (49±1.3)g were divided into three groups, high-dose group, low-dose group and control group,30 mice in each group, with a treatment course of 3 months for three groups. The luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone (P) and estradiol (E_2) of mice were detected, the weight of vagina and womb was measured, and the morphological changes of wombs were observed by HE staining. Results The weights of vagina and womb in high-dose group and low-dose group were significantly increased, as compared with those of control group ( P <0.01). There was no significant difference between the two treatment groups ( P >0.05). The
compound Baoyuan decoction could obviously relieve or reverse the wombs atrophy of mice, and could obviously increase serum E_2 and P levels ( P <0.01), reduce LH levels. The two treatment groups were superior to control group ( P <0.01). There was no significant difference between the two treatment groups ( P >0.05). Conclusion Compound Baoyuan
Decoction can effectively modulate the sex hormone levels in elderly mice, and can relieve and improve the reproductive system's degeneration. Compound Baoyuan decoction provides reliable experimental basis for developing new natural estrogen medicines for the treatment of coronary heart disease in menopausal women.
