In order to explore the functional mechanism of
"Brain Health Oral Liquid" (composed of Radix Astragali, Radix Puerariae,
Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Pollen Typhae, etc.) for cerebral dementia (VD), 75 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: false surgery group (A), model group (B), Chinese herb group 1 (C), Chinese herb group 2 (D), and medication group (C). Except Group A, the bilateral common carotid artery was ligated in the rest
animals to create chronic low cerebral refilling model. From the third day after modeling, the latter three groups were respectively given small and large dose of
"Brain Health Oral Liquid" and "Brain Rehabilitation Drink". The animals were killed in the 50 th day to determine indexes of blood rheological property and observe the pathological changes of brain tissue. The results showed that after treated with Chinese herbal drugs and western medications, blood viscosity was decreased and injury of brain tissue was relieved in modeled animals. Chinese herb group was better than medication group. Large dose of Chinese herbal preparation was better than small dose. The findings indicate that to improve the circulation of brain blood and promote the morphological restoration of the nerves and cells injured in ischemic status is one of the mechanism of "Brain Health Oral Liquid" in the treatment of VD.
