In order to prove the function of
“Divine Cow Powder" (main ingredients: Cornu Bubali, Flos Lonicerae, Fructus Forsythiae,
Radix Isatidis, etc.) on acute gouty arthritis, 40 Wistar male rats were randomly divided into the normal group, model group, Chinese medicine group, and
medication group, 10 in each group. Physiological saline was injected in the normal group. Urate sodium solution was injected into the capsule of the intertarsal joint of the right tibia in the rest groups to establish animal models of experimental uratic arthritis in the ankle. 4 hours after the models were established,
“Divine Cow Powder" was fed into the stomach in Chinese medicine group. Colchicine was fed into the stomach in the western medication group. Warm water in same volume was fed in the normal group and model group. 72 hours after modeling, rats were killed to fetch the materials for optical and electron microscopic examinations respectively. The results showed that under optical microscope, joint tumefaction decreased obviously in the most rats of the Chinese medicine group, almost normal, with occurrence of multinuclear foreign-body giant cells decreased. Under optical microscope, nuclear form of chondrocyte was almost normal, and articular cartilage and synovial cell structure were almost close to those in the normal group. The synovial cells containing lysosome were as same as the normal ones. No obvious proliferation of osteocollagenous fibers was seen. There was no obvious difference between the groups of Chinese medicine and western medication.
