Aim:To explore whether
resveratrol (RES) could effectively suppress infarct size or improve
neurological deficits during
acute period in the Toshima's lacunar infarction (LI) model. Methods:A total of 60 male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. According the methods of Toshima's LI model, 100 μg of sodium laurate was injected into the right internal carotid artery at day 1 and 3 respectively to develop LI model. RES was administered to 3 groups at different doses (the doses of RES were 1 μg/kg,0.1 μg/kg,0.01 μg/kg) via intravenous injection once a day from day1 to day 5, The 4th group was administered the same dose vehicle only. The consequent of 4 groups were examined by posture reflex test and histopathological analyses. Results:72 hours after the second injection of sodium laurate (day 6), 46.7%,40%,73.3%,73.3% rats showed mild to severe
neurological deficits in 1 μg/kg,0.1 μg/kg,0.01 μg/kg and control groups respectively. We could find a trend which is RES could reduce the area of infarction under the concentration of 1 μg/kg,0.1 μg/kg, but there was no significant difference between these 4 groups ( P >0.05). Conclusion:It is possible that RES could reduce the infarction area and improve neurological deficits in the acute period of LI. Further study about mechanism of RES needs to be done in the future.
