To study subchronic toxic effects of
triazophos in rats. Four groups of 13 male and 13 female Sprague Dawley (SD)
rats per each group were fed with feed stuff containing triazophos at 0,1,20 and 400 mg/kg feed stuff for 13 weeks. The general behaviour, body weight, feed stuff and water consumption were observed. The urine was collected at
week 7 and 13 for urine routine testing. The blood was collected at week 13 for blood routine testing. At week 2,4,6 and 13 to measure the whole blood cholinesterase. All animals were sacrificed at week 13,the internal organs were taken to weigh and calculate the ratio of organ to body weight. The histopathological examimation was conducted. Survival was 100% during 13 weeks. The body
weight of the rats in 400 mg/kg group was obviously lower than that in the control group. The liver to body weight ratio was obviously higher than that in the control group. The blood alkaline phosphatase(ALK) and triglycerides(Trig) were obviously higher than those in the control group. The red blood cell(RBC) number and hemoglobin(HGB) in 20 and 400 mg/kg groups were lower than those in the controls. At week 4, activity of whole blood
cholinesterase was depressed in femals (37 1%) and in males (29 2%) in 400 mg/kg group, and also depressed in females (15 7%) and in males (13 2%) in 20 mg/kg group. At week 6,cholinesterese was also inhibited in females (12%) and in males (6 9%) in 1 mg/kg group.
There was slight effect on the body weight and liver of the rats administered orally 400 mg/kg feed stuff. The lowest observed effect level(LOEL) is 20 mg/kg. The no observed effect level(NOEL) is 1 mg/kg.
