Objective To investigate the effect of Yiqiwenyanghuwei decoction on plasma soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1sICAM-1
levels in asthmatic guinea-pigs. Methods The guinea-pigs were at random divided into normal control group asthma group dexmethaone group Yupingfeng powder group and three
different dose's groups of Yiqiwenyanghuwei decoction respectively. The guinea-pigs' plasma samples were collected 24h after asthma provocated. The levels of plasma sICAM-1 were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assayELISA. Results The level of plasma sICAM-1 in asthma group was 141.94±78.24ng/ml there was a marked difference compared with those in the others' groupP<0.05 The levels in normal control group was lowest in the seven groups namely 24.68±13.87ng/mlP<0.05 The levels in Yupingfeng powder group 78.37±21.07ng/ml was
significantly different compared with those in the others' groupsP<0.05 The level of plasma sICAM-1 in low-dose group and middle-dose group were significantly higher than those in dexmethaone group and high-dose groupP<0.05 the levels of the former were 72.44±15.46ng/ml and 62.89±17.18ng/ml respectively there was not significant diference between the two groupsP>0.05 the levels of the latter were 55.08±18.22ng/ml and 48.62±18.32ng/ml there was not significant difference between the latter groupsP>0.05. Conclusion Yiqiwenyanghuwei decoction can lower plasma sICAM-1 levels in the asthmatic guinea-pigs.
