Objective:To investigate protective effect of phenolic hydroxyl on extructed from of scutellaria baicalensis georgi(SBG)
radiation injury of
submandibular glands in mice Methods: the heat extracted liquid from SBG was acidified and kept hot for 50 minutes at 80℃ Then the flavonoids of SBG (FSBG) were precipitated and removed by filter A precipitate (I) possessing effective component glycoside of SBG(GS GB) was obtained by classical separation process from the filtered solution Intraperitoneal injection (ip) of (I) 1 2g/kgin NIH female mice 35~45 minutes before 3 5 Gy of whole body 60C0 irradiationwas conducted At the same time,
irradiation control group and free control group were assigned respectively The mice were sacrificed 13~17 days after irradiation Their submandibular glands were weighed and prepared for electron microscope examination The difference among three groups were compared The experiment was repeated three times Results: Every experiment showed that the intraperitoneal injection of (I) 1 2 g/kg in mice have significant protective effect on radiation injury to submandibular glands The difference of weight of submandibular glands between treatment group and irradiation control group was remarkable The ultrastructure changes of these two groups were also significantly different Conclusion: 1 Glycoside of SBG may have protective effect on radiation injury of submandibular glands in mice 2 This study suggests that GS BGcould be used in clinic as a protector of radiation injury for parotid gland
