The study on pharmacodynamic material basis and functional mechanism in Chinese materia medica(individual drugs
and compound drugs)is a key for
scientization and modernization of Chinese materia medica.In review of the current situation and previous study at home and abroad,the author put forward that the study on effective chemical composition(ECC)in Chinese materia medica should be conformed to the theory of coordinate chemistry,with the morphology of chemical species in Chinese materia medica as a core and based upon the mutual function of organic composition(OC)and trace elements(TE),for solving the position and substance of the effective chemical composition in Chimese materia medica and correctly understanding the biological activity of the compatible substance it forms,so as to provide a correct thinking route in the screening and development of the new drugs of compatible substances in Chinese materia medica.Therefore,the author also introduced the study methodology for the biological activity and toxicity of heavy metal in Chinese patent medicines and proved that the standard to assess toxicity just by determination of their heavy metal contents is not scientific.The author insisted that only by the related study based upon the coordinate function of the morphology and effective composition of the heavy metal species,can the scientific and reliable criteria for quantity limitation of heavy metal be stipulated.
