Neurobehavioral funtions of 103 workers (69 oil print makers and 34 shoes makers)exposed occupationally to mixed organic
solvents were studied here.Solvents were composed mainly of toluene, xylene and benzene 72. workers without
exposure of neurotoxic factors in the same factories were studied simultaneously as a control group. The
Neurobehavioral Core Test Battery (NCTB) recommended by WHO was applied to investigate neurobehavioral functions of the studied population. Our results showed:compared with controls, the scores of the exposed workers of Profile Of Mood Staes(POMS),Santa Ana manual dexterity, digit span, digit symbol, pursuit aiming were lower, but only Santa Ana manual dexterity of dominant bands and pursuit aiming tests showed significant difference(P<0 05).According to concentrations of Solvent at workplaces, oil print workers were studied as lower exposure group, and shoe workers as higher exposure group.Compared with oil print workers and controls, the scores of shoe workers of depression and vigor of POMS,digit span,Santa Ana manual dexterity of both hands, digit symbol and pursuit aiming tests were statistically significantly lower.According to these findings,it can be concluded that mixed organic solvents of toluene, xylene and benzene, have harmful effects on neurobehavioral functions of exposed workers, such as feeling depressed, less vigor, lower motor speed, poor ability to correspond, shortly remember and understand.NCTB is a simple and sensitive method to find out these harmful effects, will be used widely in the future.
