Growth development courses of aboveground total biomass as well as stem, leave, flower fruit biomass of
Adenophora potaninii
Korask.populations in different altitudes have been studied systematically. The results showed that: (1) The aboveground total biomass growth development of the whole population is slow during 1-5 years old,and then, increases with the age until 15 years old, after that, goes down until dead age.The biomass growth development courses with age could be expressed by the equation: y=a 0+a 1x+a 2x 2 .(2) The
aboveground biomass growth development tendency, both the total and each organ,of different populations at different altitudes is similar to the whole population,in which the growth speeds are slower during the young ages or old ages, and higher during 15 years old.(3) Under the favorable water and temperature environmental conditions with less disturbance at middle altitudes, the population biomass can achieve the higher level. In the harsh habitat, such as strong external disturbance at lower altitude or lower temperature at higher altitude, population biomass only maintains the lower level. The comprehensive habitat condition is closely connected with the biomass growth, growth pattern of each organ and the peak period of biomass growth of the different populations.
