AIM: To observe Sheng_mai_san injection (containing radix ginseng rubra, Ophiopogon japonicus, Schisandra Chinensis) vs Astragalus
membranaceus injection in treating coronary heart disease (CHD) with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD). METHODS: Thirty_two CHD patients (M 14, F 18, age: 66±s 11 a) with LVD were treated with Sheng_mai_san injection 80 mL in 10% glucose 500 mL, iv, drip, qd for 2 wk. Nineteen CHD patients (M 8, F 11, age 63±11 a) with LVD were treated with
Astragalus membranaceus injection 12 mL in 10% glucose 500 mL iv, drip, qd for 2 wk. Before and after treatments cardiac function was assessed by
pulsed Doppler echocardiography. Sheng_mai_san injection was compared with Astragalus membranaceus injection. RESULTS: Sheng_mai_san injection group showed left ventricular systolic function (SV, CO, CI, EF and FS) and left ventricular diastolic function parameters (PE, ES, PE/PA) were improved (P<0.01). Left ventricular systolic function parameters (CI, CO, FS, EF) of Astragalus membranaceus injection group were also improved (P<0.05, P<0.01), but the drug had no effects on left ventricular diastolic function. Adverse reaction was not found in Sheng_mai_san injection group. CONCLUSION: The effects of Sheng_mai_san injection is superior to the Astragalus membranaceus injection for treatment on coronary heart disease with LVD.
