To understand
cadmium toxicity on sexual gland and accessory glands,24 SD male rats were divided into four groups,i.e.low,middle,and high
dose groups, into which cadmium chloride were injected subcutaneously with the doses of 0.5,1.0 and 2.0 mg Cd/kg respectively,as well as control group. The results showed that the weight of epididymis, prostate, seminal vesicle, testis and body weight of rats in the
middle and high dose group were
significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.01).A doseresponse relationship between the dose of cadmium and the weight of sexual and accessory
glands was found. The organ coefficients of testis, epididymis, seminal vesicle, and prostate in the middle and high dose group were significantly lower than those in the control and
low dose group(P<0.01) respectively. The sperm concentration and viability rate in the low dose group were obviously lower than those in the control(P<0.01),and the malformation rate was inverse. The sperm concentration in the middle dose group was significantly lower than that in the low dose group(P<0.01) and its malformation rate was significantly higher(P<0.01),and no viable sperm found. There were not any sperms in the high dose group. Therefore, this study demonstrated that cadmium could result in sexual and accessory glands damage in rats.
