おn this paper, the passive smoking pregnant rats were used as the animal models to study the pathogenesis of intrauterine
growth retardation(IUGR) of fetus. The rats were divided into three groups in the order of pregnancy:normal control group, IUGR group and Jiantai Ye group(
treatment group).By using sodium dodecy1 sulfatepalyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of protein, components of
membrane skeletal proteins were measured in each group. The mean fetal birth weight was also observed as an evaluation criterion of effect. The results showed that, compared with IUGR group, the mean fetal birth weight and the content of the membrane skeletal protein band 3 increased significantly in treatment group(P<0.01),and the content of high molecular polymer decreased (P<0.01).But there was no significant difference between treatment group and control group. It is concluded that occurrence of IUGR may be associated with the microcirculatory disturbance of placenta and Jiantai Ye can protect the erythrocyte membrane skeletal protein, maintain the normal form, structure and function of erythrocytes and improve the placental microcirculation, thus contributing to the prevention and cure of IUGR. Counteracting the damage of erythrocytes by oxygen free radicals may be the protective mechanism of Jiantai Ye.
