Objective: To study the effect of fetal
brain extract (Nerval Active Factors, NAF) on increased learning, memory, and
stamina of mice. Methods: The time of maze-looking for food and the frequency of walking road error were tested by using a complicated maze. We test the drowned time by carrying 5% body weight on
mice back. The experimental mice were divided into five groups at random: physiological saline group (A),Cerebrolysin group(B),NAS groups(C: 0.1 mg,D: 0.2mg,E:0.4 mg).Results:(1)The amount of time the mice-looked for food was not significantly changed in the mice of group A (P>0.1) and was significantly shorter in groups B,C,D,and E(P<0.005,P<0.05,P<0.001,P<0.001) after treatment.(2)The frequency of walking road error was not significantly changed in groups A and B(P>0.2,P>0.5) and was significantly decreased in groups C,D and E(P<0.02,P<0.02,P<0.01) after treatment.(3)Drowned time of mice carrying 5% body weight on back had significant difference in five groups by analysis of variance(P<0.05) after treat-ment,but this difference derived from C and E groups(P<0.05)and D and E groups (P<0.01).Conclusion:NAS can raise learning, memory, and stamina of mice. However, on the contrary, when the amount of NAF used by i.p was equal to or beyond 20 mg/kg b.w,stamina of mice decreases.
