OBJECTIVE:The effects of the 80% alcoholic extract of
Artemisia anomala S.Moore on wound healing of deep second-degree burned
rats.METHODS:Sixty-four round deep second degree burn wounds(3.0 cm in diameter)were made by Temperature-Pressure Controlled Electric Burning Equipment on the back of sixty-four healthy adult SD rats which were randomly divided into 2 groups. The experimental group was treated with 0.2ml of the 80% alcoholic extracts of Artemisia anomals S.Moore, and the control group was treated with 0.2ml of saline solution, once a bay until complete healing of the burned wound. The mean healing time were compared. The growth of epidermis tissue and collagen fibers were evaluated under light microscope.Furthermore, dynamic analysis of local tissue hydroxyproline(OHP)contents was performed and DNA cell cycle analysis of the wound was examined by flow cytometry.RESULTS:All rats survived, the healing time of experimental group(17.88+/-1.24 days)was much shorte than that of control group (20.13+/-0.83 days)(P<0.01).Light microscipe observation showed that the growth of epidermis and collagen fibers of experimental group were much better than that of control group. The OHP contents and the percent of S phase DNA cell cycle of wound tissue also showed that the experimental group was obviously higher than the control group(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:The 80% alcoholic extracts of
Artemisia anomala S.Moore accelerated the healing of burn wounds significantly.
