Objective: To study the effect of angelica injection on neuronal plasticity in
hippocampus after
global cerebral ischemia.
Methods: 60 gerbils were used to develope
global cerebral ischemia model by ligating bilateral common artery for 10 minutes and then divided into treatment group, which were administrated with angelica injection intraperitonealy, and control group that accepted normal saline. And another 6 gerbils were put into normal group without operation and treatment. At 16 h,1,2,3,6 d after operation, immunohistochemistry was used to evaluate the expression of GAP 43,MAP 2 and SYN proteins in
hippocampus of animals. Results: No evident morphologic changes were detected after operation. MAP 2 expression gradually decreased, reaching its lowerest level at 3 d,and sligthly increased at 6 d. While expressions of GAP 43 and SYN kept increasing. On each stage, levels of all the three proteins expression in treatment group were higher than those in control group. Conclusion: There is apparent neuronal plasticity and reconstruction in hippocampus after global cerebal ischemia. And this process can be accelerated by angelica injection.
