In order to solve the problem of low efficiency drilling in hard and compact rock with diamond drill bit, efforts were made
to manufacture
electroplated weakly-bonded
diamond bit. Weak bond materials, including superabrasive material, adhesive and coating micro powder, were selected. Granulation technique of weakly bonded diamond was introduced. Orthogonal design method was adopted to study the effects of types of coating micro powder, grain size of diamond particles after granulation and concenation of granulated diamond on the performance of electroplated weakly-bonded diamond bit. Drilling experiments were carried out on laboratory drilling test bench. Drilling samples were high hardness and compactness materials, such as pure quarts and man-made zircon corundum. Range analysis shows that influencing significance of the three factors on drilling efficiency is concentration of granulated diamond→type of coating micro powder→grain size of diamond particles after granulation. Drilling results display that electroplated weakly-bonded diamond bit can effectively solve the problem of slipping while drilling in hard, compact rock.
