Radome made of melted-quartz is a typical hard and brittle
workpiece material with complicated shape. To meet the critical high accuracy requirement of
precision grinding of its inner surface, a special equipment with
electroplated diamond grinding wheel and a dry grinding method are adopted. In this paper, an experimental research on the process parameters for the radome inner surfaces precision grinding was conducted on a special radome CNC grinding machine. Through experiment, the feed amount of the grinding wheel and the proper
rotation speed range of the workpiece are selected and tested. The results indicated that when adopting a 60# electroplated diamond grinding wheel, and when the rotation speed of the grinding wheel is 10800 r/m, the feed amount f_r ≤(0.03mm,) and the circumferential velocity of the workpiece v_ω ≤1mm/s, the highest machining accuracy and the best surface quality can be obtained, which satisfies the requirements of the radome inner surface precision grinding.
