Cleaning production is the precondition for performing sustainable development. The research about
green cutting, an important
part of cleaning production, indicates that the combination of dry cutting and high-speed cutting will be an excellent
green cutting, which is of high efficiency, low consumption, good quality, less pollution to environment, and much profit overall and is the main trend in
machining in the future. PCBN is an promising tool material, which, compared with cemented-carbide alloy and ceramics, has some good qualities as hard(2~3 times greater), heat-resistant(800℃~1000℃), chemically stable(not reacting with ferrous metals), and so on. It has more significant advantages using PCBN tools to cut ferrous metals in case of dry cutting and high-speed cutting such as: low investment, high efficiency of machining (3~5 times greater than grinding), low cost (4 times less than grinding), low consumption (5~10 times less than grinding), undamaged machining surface, convenient to machining complicate parts, and obtaining cleaning chips easy to recover. This is the most ideal tool material suited to green cutting. Finally the paper stresses on introducing application technology of PCBN tools.
