Objective To investigate the effects of olive leaf extract on glycemia and lipidemia in normal and diabetic mice induced by steptozocin. Methods The living diabetic mice model was established by intra peritoneal injection of streptozocin. The effect of Et?OH fraction of olive leaf extract on blood glucose of normal mice was explored,so was the effect of Et?OH and Et?Oac fractions on blood glucose, serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and high and low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol of diabetic mice. Results Compared with the normal control group, the Et?OH fraction of high and middle doses could significantly decrease the blood glucose in normal mice. Both Et?OH and Et?Oac fractions could remarkably decrease the blood glucose in diabetic mice.In addition, hypoglycemic function of Et?Oac fraction was more obvious than that of Et?OH fraction. There was no manifest relationship between effects and doses. At the same time,it's also shown that Et?Oac fraction could decrease the level of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein cholesterol in diabetic mice. Conclusion Olive leaf extract can regulate blood glucose and the blood lipids.
