Objective:To investigate the effect of
Jinmaitong mixture(Chinese herb medicine) on
conduction velocity of sciatic nerve
and antioxidant level of erythrocyte in diabetic rats.Methods:Streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats were fed with
Jinmaitong mixture (22.5g·kg -1,qd) for 8 weeks or aminoguanidine(AG) as control group.The
conduction velocity of sciatic nerve,the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) in erythrocyte and the plasma malondialdehyde(MDA) were examined in all rats.Results:After treatment,the conduction velocity of sciatic nerve in rats treated with Jinmaitong mixture was increased,and significant difference was observed between groups(P<0.05～ 0.01).The erythrocytic SOD activity was increased in comparison with control group(P<0.01) and the plasma MDA and blood glucose level were decreased in comparison with control group.Conclusion:Jinmaitong mixture can promote the erythrocytic SOD activity,reduce the level of MDA,increase the conduction velocity of sciatic nerve in STZ-induced diabetic rats.It may be useful to improve diabetic neuropathy.
