Objective To evaluate the
characteristics of
bone matrix gelatin (BMG) and its effect. Methods The BMG was refined from
the legs of rabbits. The BMG was implanted into soft tissues of five rabbits and BMG was compound with NiTi alloys, and then were implanted in the parietal bone of three rabbits. The rabbits were sacrificed at 1,2,3,4,8,12 weeks after implantation. The specimens were prepared and observed by light microscope and SEM. Results Prechondroblasts, cartilage matrix could be observed in soft tissues at 12 weeks and 34 weeks after the BMG implantation respectively. All the BMG and the cartilage were completely absorbed at 8 weeks after the implantation. In the early stage of implantation in the cranium, the compound materials was better than the NiTi alloys in osteoplastic time and maturity of new bone, while in the late stage except the maturity of new bone, there were no significant differences in both compound materials and NiTi alloys. Conclusion The BMG has the capability of ectopy osteoinduction, and played a role in the rapid healing of NiTi alloys with the surrounding bone.
