EFFECTS OF SEVERAL DRUGS INCLUDING CHINESE HERBS ON SIMULATED MOTION SICKNESS IN HUMAN

Article Abstract by: TsingHua

Original Author: MEDICAL JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATIONS
This abstract was translated from 几种中西药抗人实验模拟运动病效果观察
Objective:Comparing with placebo and dimenhydrinate, we observed the anti-motion sickness effects of compound ginger extracts
(CGE), half volume of CGE plus anisodamine 2.5mg and cinnarizine 6.25mg (CGE-AC),and several other drugs,in order to find some good drug for the prevention of motion sickness. Methods:CGE was decocted with six herbs including ginger and rhizoma gastrodiae selected from prescription "Zhiyunling".Motion sickness was evoked by repeated sudden-stop rotatory stimulation in seven healthy female students.Nausea was taken as the end point of the stimulation, and then the tolerance score of each subject was calculated. Results:Compared to placebo (starch 100mg), administrations via p.o. of dimenhydrinate (50mg),anisodamine (10mg),cinnarizine (25mg),"Yunkeping" (30ml),CGE (30ml) and CGE-AC elevated the motion sickness tolerance of subjects about 5.4%,7.5%,5.9%,7.4%,32.3%,20.4% respectively.CGE was better than other drugs with no obvious side effects except tasting pungently via p.o.CGE-AC showed an additive, not the cooperative, effect of its each constituent. Conclusions:Compound ginger extracts has better effect in the prevention of motion sickness.
