Objective: To observe the effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) on
sexual function and
reproductive function of the hemicastrated
rats. Method: Forty-six male rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. The right testis was extirpated except for normal control group. Normal control group and negative control group were given saline (ig), positive control group was injected hypodermically testosterone propionate at
dose of 2
mg/(kg bw ·d). LBP control group was given LBP at dose of 10 mg/(kg bw ·d) ig. Mating test and
erective test were observed. Results:The latency time of penis erection and mounting was shortened in LBP group and positive control group, and the percentage of mounting animals and serum testosterone levels were increased, but estradiol level reduced.
