OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of metoprolol on the sensitivity of insulin in Steptozocin-duduced(SD) rats with diabetes.METHODSSD
rats were feed with diets enriched with fat and cholesterol, diabetic rats model were developed by intraperitoneal injection with 25 mg·kg~-1 streptozotocin(STZ).Three subgroups were divided randomly and different dose(3,10,30mg·kg~-1·d~-1) metoprolol were given according to body weight.5 rats were killed randomly from every group at the beginning of experiment and after treated for 4 weeks and 8 weeks respectively, blood glucose, fast insulin, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, glycated hemoglobin were determined.RESULTS From the experiment,we found:there was no effect on blood glucose, insulin sensitivity, blood cholesterol, triglyceride, and glycated hemoglobin in every metoprolol groups.CONCLUSION Within the dosage range of 30 mg·kg~-1,metoprolol not only had no effect on blood glucose, insulin sensitivity, blood total cholesterol, low density cholesterol, triglyceride.
