Objective To study the
hypoglycemic activity of saponin extracted from litchi seed in diabetic and normal mice. Methods The
diabetic mice model was made by injection of tetraoxypyrimidine. The diabetic mice were divided into three groups, the
experimental group treated with the extracted saponin, the positive control group with dimethyldiguanide and the negative control group with normal saline. The mice in different groups were given different agents by continuous intragastric administration. After three weeks, the fasting blood sugar levels of the mice in different groups were detected. Results The
hypoglycemic rate of the saponin on the normal and diabetic mice were 16.74% and 59.57% respectively. The hypoglycemic activity was stronger in the experimental group than that in the normal control group, negative control group and dimethyldiguanide group(P<0.05,0.01).Conclusion The saponin had the(hypoglycemic) activity on both the normal and diabetic mice, and the activity is stronger in the experimental group than that in the dimethyldiguanide group.
