Objective To study the effects of acanthopanacis senticosi extracts on human sperm mobility in vitro and to investigate its possible mechanism. Methods By using computer-assisted sperm analysis(CASA),the effects of acanthopanacis senticosi extracts on human sperm mobility was observed in vitro. The sperm obtained by masturbation and prepared by swim-up technique from 18 men were incubated in 10 mg·mL~(-1) extracts of acanthopanacis senticosi.Measurements were carried out at 0.5,1,2,3,4 and 5 h after incubation in all specimens. Results With time prolonged, human sperm mobility decreased to different degrees and 10 mg·mL~(-1) extracts of acanthopanacis senticosi could increase it,including the percentage of viability(Mot),the percentage of progressive mobile sperm, the curvilinear velocity(VCL),the straight line velocity(VSL) and the average path velocity(VAP).Compared with control group, the difference was significant(P<0.05). Conclusion With time prolonged, extracts of acanthopanacis senticosi can increase human sperm viability and mobility in vitro. The study provides a new experimental basis for clinical use of acanthopanacis senticosi extracts.
