AIM:To study the effect of Tongmai Jiangzhi(TMJZ) capsule in regulating lipid metabolism of animal models of fatty liver. METHODS:Rat models of fatty liver were established with low dose of carbon tetrachloride and high fat diet, and then gastric perfusion of TMJZ capsule of 0.15 and 0.075 g/kg per day were given respectively for 3 weeks. Liver index,serum levels of glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT),triacyglycerol(TG) and total cholesterol (TC),levels of TG,TC,malonaldehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione in the liver tissue were determined,and the pathological changes of liver were observed. RESULTS:Compared with the fatty liver model group,the serum activity of GPT,TG and TC contents were significantly decreased in the TMJZ high and low dose groups(P< 0.01);the liver index, contents of MDA,TG and TC in liver tissue were all remarkably decreased(P< 0.01);activities of SOD and glutathione in liver tissue were significantly raised. Pathological observation showed that there was change of fat in the liver of rat model of fatty liver, indicating that TMJZ capsule could obviously relieve the pathological changes of liver tissue. CONCLUSION:TMJZ capsule can obviously reduce blood lipid and relieve the pathological changes.
