Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of bergamot essential oil and its components

In order to analyze the chemical composition and their relative contents in essential oil of bergamot, bergamot essential
oil was extracted by supercritical carbon dioxide(SC-CO-2). The chemical compositions and their relative contents in essential oil of bergamot were analyzed by GC-MS. The subject were fresh bergamot and dried bergamot from Jinhua. They were extracted respectively. The results were: 34 compounds were identified from fresh bergamot oil and the yield was (16.2 mL5kg~(-1)). Dried bergamot was extracted by SC-CO-2 at two different period with different conditions, the yield was 9.6 mL5kg~(-1). 51 compounds were identified of the first period and 40 compounds were identified of the second period. They were showed that the technology of supercritical carbon dioxide(SC-CO-2) extraction can significantly increase the yield and the quality of bergamot essential oil. The main components of fresh bergamot oil was butanediol (16.28% ) and dried bergamot oil was coumarin, 5,7-dimethoxy-((19.49%)). The rate of inside long chain fatty acids of dried bergamot oil was 26.47% at second period.
