Objective: To understand the situation of the antibiotics used in outpatients of our hospital and to offer guides for rational
use of antibiotics in clinical practice. Method: 3660 prescription samples of
outpatients from June, 2003 to June, 2004 were randomly collected and filled into tabulations according to statistics. Then a comprehensive analysis was conducted. Result: The proportion of antibiotics in use was 36.48%, almost on the same level of the other cities of same status (approx 35%), and complied with the regulations of Medicalinsurance on the whole. The rate of concomitant administration was 17%, among which most were basically rational. However, some administrations of medicines mainly depended on experience, resulting in a low testing rate of drug bacterial resistance, only 2.17%, which was much lower than the requirement of the Ministry of Health. Conclusion: The drugs of Medicalinsurance were mainstream drugs used in our hospital.
Rational use of drugs was the main trend, however, some problems still existed. Some corresponding regulations should be worked out, in order to improve the rationality and safety in the clinical drug application.
