The SD rats(closed group)were utilized to examine the edibility of glandlesscottonseed kernels (GCK) on toxicology. The rats
were fed with pure GCK (100%) for aweek,in the acute
toxicity test,no death and abnormal reaction were observed. In six monthsfeeding trial,40% (group Ⅰ )and 20% (group Ⅱ ) GCK were fed to rats, compared with control (group Ⅲ, 0% GCK),no deterimental effects on body weight gain, feed consumption andgrowth consistency were noted. In addition, the results of hematological analysis (counts ofleukocyte, erthrocyte and hemoglobin content in blood),serum biochemical analysis (determination of total protein, albumin, globulin, glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, urea, cholesterol, glucose in serum),viscera-body weight ratio determination (heart, lung, liver, spleen, kidney, testicle, ovary) and pathologic
examination (perimetric and microscopic tissue examination)were all normal or non-abnormal. Further the statistical analyses of data showed that nomarked differences occurred between treatment(Ⅰ, Ⅱ ) and control (Ⅲ )groups,so it is suggested that GCK has not toxic effect on SD rats in acute toxicity test and six months feedingtrial.
