To understand the situation of use of benzodiazepines (BZD) in some primary and middle school students in Guiyang city, a
survey on the BZD use of 2761 students with the method of self-report was carried out. The results revealed that of the 2761 students , 84 used BZD and its rate of usage was 3.04%; there were more BZD drug users in male students than those in female students and of all students, junior middle school students used BZD the most (going up to 63% of BZD users);65 (77%) students reported nonmedical BZD use . The main reason for BZD use was curiosity, imitation and entertainment . A study regarding psychosocial status of BZD users, including SCL-90 and EPQ, was conducted and the results showed that 12.2% of BZD users had some psychological problems and scores of N scale and P scale (EQP) in BZD users were higher than those in BZD nonusers. It suggested that there be a phenomenon of BZD abuse among certain
primary and middle school students and some unhealthy psychological factors exist among them. Therefore, it is necessary and meaningful to carry out drug abuse preventive education among primary and middle school students.
