Are you afraid to try new things? you might want to think about getting yourself from being afraid, if you read the article about rats below.
Rats that are afraid of new things usually die at an earlier age than more advaentuous rats do, a new study found. If the same is true for people, being open to certain kinds of new experiences minht help you live longer.
As babies ,some ras climb all oxr new objects, and they usually become adventurous and curious when they grow up . Other ras are more timid throughout their lives. In neutral situations, both adventurous and timid rats have the same amount of a chemical called corticosterone rise when an animal is under lots of pressure.
In one study , two psychologists from theUniversity of Chicago looked at 14 pairs of rat brother was adventurous, the other timid .When they were cauthght and put in a tube , the timid rats had much higher levels of corticosterone than their brother had. the researchers found. The condition lasted for more  than 2 hours .
On top of that , the timid rats in the study lived only about 600 days. The adventurous rats lived around 700 days .
Adventurous people might produce lower levels of corticosterone, too. which could help them live longer . But researchers aren''t ready to advise that you let go of all your fears.
