Middle Class Kids are more likely to be obese. The children belonging to middle class
families are more prone to be obese compared to the children of poor families. This is the result of a study by researchers at the Institute of Child Health at University college , London and Great Ormond Street hospitals, reported by ANI, 23rd July ’07.The study was based on the lives of 13000 children born in U.K. between 2000 and 2002.
The main reason behind this is the increased no. of working
mothers. The study said parents need to be careful about the intake of food of their children.
In absence of working mothers, they are at the hands of Nannies and Nurseries who do not pay enough attention for diet or
physical exercises.
Kids also developed unhealthy habits of loads of snack foods, sweetened drinks, as well as spending more time in front of TV. Due to parental time constraint, the children are indulged in taking more unwanted food or sit in front of TV or Video games. They are lacking physical activity.
This is a wake up call for parents where both are employed. The mother has to come forward to reduce this obese amongst young children. This study is published International Journal of Obesity.
