Olive oil which is a monounsaturated fat has been a part of the mediterranean diet since5000 years.It can be consumed freshly pressed from fruit.( Extra virgin olive oil)It has numerous health benefits in the human body.1. It reduces LDL without reducing HDL2.contains antioxidentslike terpine,sterols,squaline,various polyphenols,tocopherols,various esters & aldehydes, Vit E, phenols etc.3.Phenols reduce BP and prevents blood clots.4.has anticancer activity ( colon and breast.)5.good for gastritis and ulcers.6.lowers gall stone formation.7.Two tablespoon prevents oxidative damage from free radicals and protects LDL from oxidation.8.good for diabetes since blood sugar is regulated.9.Three oz a day decreases BP ( systolic & diastolic)10.Plays a part in prventing heart attack since it inhibits platelets aggregation.11. reduces gastritis and gall stones.olive oil should never be cooked since it is oxidised by light and heat.The best way is to consume 2 tablespoon of extravirgin oive oil daily.I am a practicing Doctor in Oman for the last two decades. I have observed remarkable health in those of my patients who take E.V.olive oil daily.
