Abstract

    Background:Managers use
various methods and styles to impress the employees and to reach their cooperation and subordination in order to achieve the organizational objectives. As the managers'' style is one of the effective factors towards creativity, motivation, job satisfaction and the efficiency in the organization, identifying the managerial styles has special significance and necessity.
Objective:The study has been done in order to determine and compare the existing managerial styles and the expected ones expected by the nurses in the hospitals of the western Mazandaran, putting an emphasis on the X-Y Theory.
Methods:In this descriptive survey, the ideas concerning the existing managerial styles and the ideal managerial styles taken from 178 members of the nursing cadre in Tonekabon and Ramsar were surveyed as the representative of Western Mazandaran. The samples were chosen randomly. The data have been collected using the standardized Chapman Questioaire. The questions have been profiled in a Laikert''s six- question spectrum
(Always = 5, never = 0).Considering the fact that the tool was translated into Farsi, its validity and reliability was approved by using the pilot-test and some expert opinions. The managerial style was determined by using the existing criterion in the questionnaire, and the K2 test was used to consider some of the personal and managerial factors.
Findings:The findings indicates that according to the surveyed samples, the existing managerial style was fairly X, and their expected managerial style was completely Y, and the resulting data showed a difference between the expected managerial style and the existing managerial style.
Conclusion:According to the previous studies, exerting the managerial style consistent with the employees'' characteristics is necessary for creating efficient management. The survey findings show the difference between the existing managerial style and their expected one in the samples. Consequently, it seems that changing the existing managerial style and enhancing the collaborative atmosphere , based on the Y Theory can be more effective.
