Acute gastroenteritis or diarrhoea as it is popularly known, as probably one of the most common diseases one comes across especially in the developing countries and mainly in children below five years. Though easily treatable, it is still one of the serious reason of mortality and morbidity in the under 5 clinics.Children generally present with vomiting and loose motions and may occasionally be associated with fever and blood and mucus in stools. The life line in these situations is ORS-oral rehydration solution.ORS is a power which is mixed with boiled and cooled water (one packet 4.3g in 200 ml)and the other things are treated with symptomatic durgs. There is no role for antibiotics in the management of acute diarrhoea.so, if any of your children suffer from loose stools start ORS and consult a doctor for further management.
