Write your abstract here. Herbal medicine deals with plant-,animal-,and mineral-derived medicines(i.e.is the science of using natural remedies to treat the patients). It shares the scientific concepts and
methods with the western medicine, including the diagnotic methods, the classification of diseases and other therapeutic methods.
Herpal medicine covers everything from natural-derived drugs with
powerful actions, such as digitalis and belladonna,to those with very
gentle action, such as chamomile, mint and many others.
Aclear distiniction exists between the gentle or limit action on one hand and powerful or forte action on the other.Between them lies awide rang of activities i.e. many drugs with action somewhere between (gentle)and(powerful)are referred to as (intermediate)e.g.Khella,arnica and liquoice.Thesituation might be the same or nearly as for herbal medicine as it is for chemotherapeutic ones.It should be noted that, very gentle action, when referring to chamomile or mint, does not mean they are more or less ineffective, but rather one would not expect these drugs to produce instant and powerful effects like those seen, for instance, after an injection of digitalis or strophanthin. Gentle action also means that these simple
medicinal drugs do not as a rule have any appresiable toxic effects, and may therefor be safely taken over an extended period of time.
the term Phytotherapy was introduced by the french physician Henri Lecleric(1870_1955), to describe the use of medicinal herbs in the treatment of the sick, Phyto-
Pharmaceuticals:pure principles obtained from medicinal plants.
As a rule the practitioner will priscribe gentle phyto_pharmaceuticals. These are effective in acute conditions, but are also worth considering for long_term theraby, for instance with many mitabolic disorders, chronic heart disease and rheumatic conditions. Hospital doctors will mostly have to use phyto_ pharmaceuticals with fast, powerful, actions such as strophanthin, atropine or morphine.
Hebalism meaning collection of different methods of using plants in healing. Several names are given for herbalism as: Electic medicine, physic medicalism, Botanic medicine.
A qualified herbal practitioner will diagnose particular symptoms and prescribe herbal treatment appropriate for the individual patient. Such treatment is directed towards restoring a state of homeostasis, or a normal physological balance of the body, rather than directly attacking the symptomes of disease.
Herbal medicine applies the use of crude drugs per se,adminisration mainly as infusions(teas) or more commonly as extracts, usually prepared industrially by extracting crud drugs with suitable solvents. These extracts areformulated into various pharmaceutical preparation sush as capsules, coated tablets,syrup...etc.,and also into parentral preparation.
It is of course ideal to try to isolate the activeprinciples of natural drugs as far as possiple in the formof pure substances ,which could then be invistegated in the same way as clearly-definable chemical compounds.
