"My friend breast-fed my son" (abstracted from "Woman" magazine)

Article Abstract by: persephonee

Original Author: Michelle Maynard
How would you react when you figure out your friend has breast-fed your baby? New mum Julie had a similar story.
Julie
felt so grateful for Monica's help of taking her five-day-old son out for a walk when she was too exhaustic to go out. Monica was a friend of Julie and just became a mum four months earlier. But when they came back Julie felt a little bit weird because her baby was not howling with hunger after a several-hour walk. Then Monica explained that she had breast-fed him.
Julie was not too shocked when Monica told her about the breast-feeding, but this did make her night sleepless. On the other hand, Julie's husband Clinton and his friend Mark, who is a doctor, were quite concerned about what Monica had done because of the possible viruses and disease that could have been transmitted through breast milk, including HIV.
Finally Julie found it acceptable and sensible for Monica to feed her son because she trusted her friend's health consciousness. However, others felt disgusting and even angry when they heard this story. This implies that the idea of sharing human breast-milk remains controversial in the society.
