Can one do without a mobile phone in the
hospital? Probably, it would be uneasy if you need to be in contact with your
relatives or colleagues. But if you find out that your cell phone disturbs the
work of health care machines, you would think twice before using it.

Dutch researchers declare of dangerous
electromagnetic interference of cell phones on hospital equipments such as a feeding
tube, a ventilator or a pacemaker. According to the scientists, you can avoid
danger unless a mobile phone is very close to the machine. The safest distance
is one meter.  Not all phones can do
harm, only those of   second- and
third-generation as they consume more electricity.

The rules stating in which areas of the hospital mobile phones
can’t be used are often violated.  In
this situation monitors and ventilators should be tested and certified or a
special antenna to boost internal signal strength must be installed in the
hospitals.

Although normal phone use is admitted and is not supposed to be
lethal, more research on this problem is required.
