Ayurveda

Book Abstract by: nuts13

Original Author: Sri Sri RaviShankar
Ayurveda is a life of science. Pollution, stress and chaos take their toll in the inhabitants of the world. All the
modern day success seems to be primarily equated with the gaining wealth, popularity, fame and power in the pursuit of which, we fail to preserve our health…
“Sarreram aadayam khalu dharmasadhanam” ………. Meaning a healthy body is a tool that needs to be preserved in order to carry out one’s responsibilities and duties in this world. Saint says we spend half of our lives gaining wealth at the cost of our health and then spend the rest of our lives spending our wealth on regaining our health.
With Ayurveda’s origin in India, ayurveda has been a part of ancient culture since time immemorial. Today it is increasingly becoming popular in the world over.
Ayurveda is a way of healthy living and its principles follow the laws of nature. All the therapy offered in the treatments is meditative, invigorating and therapeutic in nature. The whole world today has recognized the value of this therapies as they bring about the holistic healing, which is more enduring than current, popular ‘quick fix’ cures.
When the body is free of toxins health is maintained by the use of herbs which are beneficial to the human system.
Ayurveda heals with diseases in two different ways:
Sadhana Chikitsa: a treatment of elimination and
Shamana Chikitsa: A treatment by suppression
Some of the popular ayurvedic treatments:
PANCHKARMA:-
Panchkarma therapies are complete cleansing treatments. Relaxing in nature they help the system to flush out impurities or toxins, the roots cause of all the ailments. Panchkarma is the sheath-anchor of the ayurveda.
MARMA THERAPY:-
Marma therapy is an age old healing technique, in which a simple touch or light massage on the vital points of the body – the ‘marma’ – is used to balance the life force called ‘prana’. It removes blocks and deformities, formed in our energy centre to unreleased resentments and other emotional garbage. These blocks ultimately lead to diseases, which are not diagnosed easily. The unique aspect of this amazing therapy is that it transcends physical and mental levels to rectify a defective energy channel subtly.
MERU CHIKITSA:-
This treatment has been found to give miraculous results in many health problems, ranging from common cold to cancer. This achieved through gentle adjustments of misaligned components of the vertebral column like the other therapies tested here, Meru Chikitsa is a very meditative procedure which promotes and preserves health in normal individuals.
SHIRODHARA:-
Shirodhara is wonderful and relaxation process in which the scalp and the forehead receive a gentle caressing massage by a thin running stream of lukewarm oil.
ABHYANGA:- Abhyanga, the concept of ayurvedic oil massage is entirely different from that of other classical massage techniques in that it balances the ‘tridoshas’ (vatta, pitta, kapha) and released stored up stress, from the mind and body by working through deeper levels of our being.
