Walking is such a wonderful exercise that it makes all the body parts to move actively. It keeps one physically and mentally fit. Its usefulness is thus much appreciated in a wider aspect. It also tones the entire body tissues. While walking the circulation of blood is constant and one can reduce the risk of many ailments such as heart attack. It builds up muscles and one remains healthy and fresh throughout the day. Now there are many modes of transport available, that can be used to move from one place to other. But unfortunately no one seems to bother about on how much harm we cause by using buses, trucks trams, cars etc. many new vehicles are hitting the road every now and then and many are in the pipe-line. The roads are too congested with traffic. It tremendously adds to pollution. Ill maintained and untuned vehicles emit loads of gases like CO, CO2 and SPM (suspended particulate matter) which is harmful for environment. Many people fall sick and have respiratory disorders due to smoke and pollution. Sadly in many countries riding a cycle or walking to one’s place of work is considered as low and backward economically.
For many it is associated with deprivation and poverty. Pavements and pedestrians get second class treatment. People just want to show off their material worth and the comforts they can afford. But they don’t know that a simple life has many advantages. Walking adds to one’s pleasures because eyes get a treat in various forms and things. Morning walk is a real pleasure as the air is fresh and there is peace and tranquility every where. It wouldn’t be off the point to mention here that people’s inclination towards material comforts has made them victims to many diseases like arthritis, joint pain, and heart ailments etc. which were unheard of in the past. Walking is a panacea for many such diseases. Therefore through this I would like to lament on the worldly beings to take a fresh look at this time tested exercise of walking which is not only eco-friendly but also costs nothing.
