The aim of this research is to validate the Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire (ICQ), based on the study of Kanning,
U. Peter, 2006, to the portuguese population. The Questionário de Competências Interpessoais (QCI) translated from the original, has 21 items, evaluated by a Likert scale with five points and 4 factors: educational style of parents, leadership in youth, social behaviour in youth, and current social behaviour. The exploratory factor analysis was not acceptable and the analysis was forced to 4 factors, redefined as: Socialization in school context, Auto-confidence and cooperation, Parent’
relationships and Leadership orientation, that explained 44,5% of the total variance explained. The number of items, due the
psychometric analysis, was reduced to 16. The psychometric qualities of the study were not validated. This on, may be a base for future research.
