YOUR PERSONAL FITNESS PROFILE
Why is it that almost all the men these days look pregnant? Firstly,
our culture has been deluded into thinking that fat is jolly. In commercials, movies and folklores, the roly-poly people are always the happy people. The truth is that overabundance in poundage and obesity leads far more people to sadness than to bliss. Almost every overweight person wants to loose that weight, but the temptations of modern foods – combined with a sedentary lifestyle – make reducing a formidable battle.
The outward signs of overweight, even if slight, are only symptoms of potential danger on the inside of the individual. Research shows that obesity is a direct or indirect cause of numerous other bodily ailments, both promoting the disease and prohibiting the cure. Experts observed that heart disease is a national disaster; every year, nearly a million Americans die from heart and blood vessel disease. This kind of thing is not happening exclusively to the super-fat, it’s very common to those who are a few pounds overweight. Contributing to this decline in
physical fitness are the following factors:
◙ A performance-oriented work and success ethic where jobs have become more deskbound. The stresses of desk duties, combined with the resultant lack of exercise, foster increasing tension, fatigue, and obesity.
◙ Diet where most diets have become sugar- and carbohydrate-oriented.
◙ Multiplied entertainment where more time is spent in front of a TV set than in any other activity besides work or sleep.
It isn’t that modern man doesn’t desire to be in good shape but the problem is that “instant” improvement complex: if it can’t be done immediately, it takes too long.
